prayer for victims of abuse

Dear god,

I pray for you to heal those who suffer from abuse - physical, sexual, emotional - and those who still suffer from it's after-effects. Please help them to understand that they are NOT a bad person just because someone does/did something bad to them! Please help them to understand that, no matter how many times their abuser said to them "you deserve this", that this is definitely not true. They may have been defiled, but they are still pure in our eyes. Help them to understand that they are loved, and that they DESERVE love - as everyone does - regardless of anything that has been done to them. Help them to know that you and we see their beautiful soul, not their violated body - their true beauty lies below the surface of such physical and emotional scars, waiting to be seen by all when the choice to move forward and heal fully is made.

Please help them to see that they ARE worthy, that they deserve better than what has happened to them. Help them to break free of negative expectations. Help them to not perpetuate their victim role in other relationships. Help them to see that they are no longer a victim, but a beautiful soul with the ability to make the choice to move forward from what happened to their physical body against their will. Help them to choose loving relationships instead. Help them to accept help where needed for them to achieve this - they are not weak or a lesser person for accepting help! They just need to see that you put us all on this planet to help each other. To help is to serve.

And for the offenders too, help them to see there is another way. Help them to see that controlling and hurting others doesn't bring true happiness to them, but does nothing but bring devastation. Help them to see there is a way to find happiness that doesn't involve trying to exert power over others. Help them to see that force is inappropriate. Help them to open up to guidance, and to seek to change their lives in a positive way. Help the community not to condemn them forever for what they have done, but to help them to change and be the loving human being you would have us all be. We are all here to learn to be loving and forgiving - please help open the eyes of those who do not see this yet. Help them to know that love can be a part of their lives, should they decide to take that step.

Please help all to step away from a life of fear. Help them to know that love is the answer - shine the light of love so strongly in their lives that they can no longer ignore it.

ETA Please also help the professionals helping these people - the psych's, counsellors, social workers. Please help them to do and say the right things to help their clients move forward from what has happened to them. Amen

I pray that God continue to strenghten you as you continue being the light and inspiration for your fellowmen. May God keep you and bless you always as you never stop serving and praising Him. AusGuy - 10 months ago: Thank you for your comments about the offenders part of it. I'm coming from the point of view that anyone who isn't being loving and/or forgiving is in need of healing (often bullies are that way because they were bullied themselves, and in need of love to stop them acting out). I was worried I might upset some victims when I said prayed for the offenders too, so it's nice to have some positive feedback about that. Thank you.
