Heanenly Father, I come to You now, like the persistent widow to the judge, just to say that I will not give up praying for Giles' healing, until I hear that You, my God, have performed this miracle. Marylean,You are absolutely right. We do indeed live in terrible times, in fact the times that Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 (almost word for word the same, as if God is saying "Watch out! Watch out! Watch out!) These are the so-called "end times," although I prefer the much less frequently used expression "In-between-times" because we are in between the first and second advents of Christ on earth. Jesus said about these times that there would be suffering that "the world has never seen before, or will ever again" and there is! He likened these times to the "birth pains" of a pregnant woman, just before the arrival of a beautiful child (His Return!) and said "These things MUST happen" and that "Because of the spread of evil, the Love of many would grow cold ." Sadly, this includes many christians who will "fall away." His phrase that I personally believe applies to NOW was "THE BEGINNING OF SORROWS." We are not yet at the end, but I definitely believe that we are at the beginning of the end! Some very eminent christians believe that we have just entered the Great Tribulation, with Iraq as a major war, and Iran as a "rumour of war" etc. One thing is for certain, Jesus is most certainly going to come back SOON, and, judging by the "signs of the times" in the world (that Jesus likened to figleaves in the end-time scriptures) it will be sooner rather than later. This is why we MUST be ready, as He told us to be in Matthew 25, so we don't miss it. Bue we should NOT be in fear. God is in COMPLETE control, no matter what the world looks like. Jesus said to us that when we "see these things" we should "LIFT UP" our heads because "YOUR REDEMPTION DRAWS NEAR" whether this will mean we are "raptured" or not. Amen, I say. Marylean, I suffered from recurrent depression from my teens and was a Prodigal Son for @ 23 years, before the Lord made Himself known to me in a dramatic one-on-one encounter. Now I'm training to be a preacher of His Holy Word! God moves in mysterious ways. Amen. Apart from counselling, I was greatly helped by the book "THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING" by Norrman Vincent Peale (Vermillion Press @ £8) It's applied scripture, plus simple exercises to get back confidence (I had none, or very little all my early years.) For instance, Chapter One is called "BELIEVE IN YOURSELF." I thought I just needed to believe in God, but He showed me that I also need to believe in myself, and my God-given talents, so that TOGETHER with HIM, I can have the abundant life Jesus promised to ALL believers. The main scripture in Chap. One is "I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME." If Giles is able to say this over and over, as an affirmation, say 10 times, morning noon and night, until it goes from his head to his heart, then his spirits would lift accordingly, and his confidence would return. He needs medical treatment AS WELL, particularly if he has had any suicidal thoughts (I used to have lots of those) God will work THROUGH his counsellor/doctor/nurses/carers too, but ANYTHING that he can do for himself, will help to restore his self-esteem.Amen? It's a "dip-in" book., NOT a "read cover-to-cover" book. Whichever Chapter "jumps out" at you, from the index, each day, is the one to read and practice that day. It's the practice that gets results, just like learning to play the piano. Remember, too, to say to yourself frequently "Everything (absolutely EVERYTHING) works together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purposes." Amen? I know that you Love God. I've seen your prayers, and I know that He has called you, for such a time as this. Make sure He also goes on to CHOOSE you, to serve Him in a totally unique way, because "Many are called, but few are chosen." To be chosen you have to endure trials such as these, which God allows to strengthen your faith and to learn TOTAL dependence and obedience to Him. He has called/is calling you. He WILL choose you if you simply and humbly follow the plan He has for your life, step by step, moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day, ever listening for that still small voice saying to you "This is the way. Walk in it." May God bless you, and protect you and Giles from ALL evil 24/7, as you stand on his Word and patiently wait for Him to move. "When you have done everything you can" says St. Paul "then JUST STAND (on the promises/Word of God) and you WILL see God move in your situation." Amen. Marylean, the most precious spiritual gifts we are given are Love, Joy and Peace, the peace that passes all human understanding and "The JOY of the Lord is our STRENGTH." Amen? The enemy knows that if he can steal our Joy in the Lord, then he can make our faith weak, and he then gets us to neglect fellowship with strong believers, until we become isolated, and (he hopes) give up altogether.DON'T LOSE YOUR JOY IN THE LORD! Amen? Giles is under God's Holy hand. He is God's son/child and God cares for him even MORE than you do. We simply do our best as parents, but, RELAX and let God sort him out, in His mysterious ways. Amen? "SUBMIT TO GOD RESIST THE devil and he will FLEE!" "Flee" means literally "run in terror" so we can terrorise the arch-terrorist when we resist him, by quoting the right scriptures (this is how Jesus defeated him in the wilderness (LUKE 4) ) First, though, we must surrender everything in our lives to God, our minds/will/emotions, our bodies with all frailities, and our feelings good and bad. Then cover yourself and Giles with the blood of Jesus (in Prayer) and then "put on the full armour of God (in prayer.)" (Read Ephesians 6) Then quote LUKE 4 to the enemy. Read it aloud. Then remind him of the CROSS at CALVARY and the RESURRECTION that overcame the powers of darkness and death itself. Then go to the end of his story (REVELATION 20) Read the whole of the chapter out loud (if you can) ESPECIALLY verse 10, which he HATES. he will soon FLEE (run in terror) if he hasn't already done so. This is spiritual warfare which we must practice as soldiers of Christ, in order that we always walk in victory. Yes satan is the so-called "god of this world" but he is only a fallen angel who was kicked out of Heaven. We serve the SUPREME SOVEREIGN LORD of the UNIVERSE, JESUS CHRIST, so, if we remain in Him, then it's "NO CONTEST!" (just like in the wilderness.
