prayer for an alcoholic?
i believe God has just put it on my mind to pray for someone very dear to me who i know has had a very big problem with hard alcohol. he spent most of his teenage years getting drunk alone after losing his brother. now he is going through another loss and i know he will hit the bottle.
it's very important to me that God save this man's life and take from him his need to drink. he needs immense amounts of prayer because he can't talk to God for himself. please, if you believe in the power of prayer, pray for him.

Much more effective would be if you could convince him that he declares it to be his will that others pray for him, so that prayers work not against his will but in accordance with his will. Ask him for allowance to cast out demons in the name of Jesus. These are earthbound spirits of dead alcoholists who possess your weakened friend and increase his craving for alcohol to satisfy their own greed, same with junkies so on....Just command them to leave your friend in the name of Jesus, they have to leave than, because free will is universal law and therefore try to change your friends attitude that he at least accept others praying for him. free will-same story

I always thought this to be fairy tale stuff unless I experienced it myself. This earthbound dead souls just use the weakness of somebody to attach themselves. But anyway if you have such a strong tie with Johannes then just pray for him, may be he changes his view on God and even after death prayers do effect and do reach the person but as long as he lives it would be surely a lot easier if he would be healthy enough to just increase his coping resources with praying but since his live goes on there is always a chance for a change, but if I understood it right you unfortunately cant even reach him by phone...

It would be a lot better if you could manage him to pray with you or joining AA because against his will you can just watch him dying away, no alternative before it becomes his own will, thats why only one of twenty survives, the others prefer dying instead of surrendering, sad, but no chance at all for our prayers. But -may be with your encouragement- till his last breath of air still the chance that your friend discovers his wish to survive, even some of the most hopeless cases started to pray. And ask if you are allowed to cast out demons in the name of Jesus because earthbound spirits of "dead" alcoholists satisfy their own desperate craving by forcing and temptating your friend to drink, ask his allowance for that on a regular basis to reduce the craving for booze at least to his own "thirst", not others,too. True story, no fairy tale.

that is what i would have done when i look back on the time i spent with him (six thousand miles from here -- he's in braunschweig, soon to be berlin). we're no longer in contact, though i somehow feel we will be again. if i could sit with him and tell him i want to pray over him, with him, because i love him and want to help the best way i know to, i would do it in a heart beat. he would have let me, but he would not have believed. i regret so much not listening to that little voice that told me to tell him God was talking to me while i was there. i know there is hope for johannes. i won't stop praying a single day until i know he's okay. even then, i wouldn't stop.

so many pray that he finds peace, and i believe you're right to. he needs to be at peace with himself. i know this man and he doesn't accept himself -- he wants so much to be somebody else that he can no longer see a way out.

Heavenly Father, attend unto the needs of your people and heal this man who feels he cannot ask for himself, Lord rebuke the devourer from his life and give him strength to say enough is enough and seek help for his drink addiction, Lord bring people into his life, that can help him change it for the better, Lord let him find peace and hope, and faith, and love and strength to face upto life as it is, give him the healing he needs, chase the demons, from having any power over him, let him see and go for the light at the end of the tunnel, let it shine brightly upon him Lord, and deliver him, send now Your Angels to wash him from the crown of his head to the souls of his feet, let the Holy Spirit come upon him and guide him to salvation, in Jesus Name Amen.
