I have been exactly where you are and I know exactly how you feel. My ex husband is active duty Army and we had been married over 10 years when he was transferred to Texas. From there things fell apart and he left me to be with someone else a few months before he was shipped out to Iraq. I loved him with all of my heart, we had been together since he was 15 and I thought we would always be together......I always knew he was my soulmate. He told me the same thing your wife told you, that he thought we were never meant to be.
One thing I can tell you, after going through all of this myself, is we never know what God's plan for us is, but just know that wherever He leads us will be the very best path we can take.
I know the suffering you are going through and my heart breaks for you.
I will be praying for you that your marriage is meant to be successful and full of love, joy and faithfulness.
