Someone asked that I speak on John 11:1-45 and I thank God for allowing her to give me that scripture; for it quicken a revelation that I never saw before.
For those that do not know John 11:1-45, this is the story of Lazarus, a friend of Jesus whom Jesus loved very dearly. Lazarus was very sick and eventually died. Now everyone that knew Jesus and what He had done were not only sad, but said if Jesus had come earlier Lazarus would not have died (11:21). Jesus was so grieved with the situation that he wept. Jesus eventually raised Lazarus from the grave; however, that is not what I want to focus your attention to.
Start reading from verse 33, notice that there was so much sadness around, that Jesus wept. He was not weeping because he loved Lazarus as the Jews thought. He wept because of the misery around, even when He was present! Earlier in vs 27, Martha believed that he was the Christ, yet she weeped. The first lesson from this is stop wallowing in self pity, self-doubt, problems, etc. Jesus stated that He would be with you even till the end of the world. So where is your faith knowing that God is close at hand? It saddens our Saviour to know that you believe, but yet doubt that He is able to bring you out. You want that change you seek, the first step is not be as other doubters and truly live in the faith, knowing that God will see you through.
The second lesson starts at verse 43, when Jesus called to Lazarus to "Come Forth". Verse 44 states something interesting and if you just read through and not stop here, you'll miss it:
"And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go."
...and his face was bound about with a napkin. Lazarus did not see, he just obeyed. The bible says "For we walk by faith and not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). Also note that Lazarus just obeyed, he didn't think about it, he didn't pause, he just did it. Your faith must be just like that! Don't say, that you'll get right when I get certain things done in my life. God has called you forth, he has called you blessed... NOW is the time to COME FORTH. Tomorrow is not promised, walk in the promise God has for you now.
The third lesson is the latter part of verse 44. Jesus said "Loose him and let him go." If you act out on faith, God will open up those avenues in your life. It doesn't work the other way around. You can't gain faith after God blesses you. Then it wouldn't be faith. Do the company give you your pay before you work? More likely you work first and then you get paid. Also you believe that at the end of your work, you will receive payment. Companies close every day. If you have enough faith to believe in receiving payment when it's time, why can't you have at least that much faith in God?
To all those who are reading this and are feeling torn down and the world is on top you, remember that if you show just a little faith, God will loosen what shackles you have and set you free. No more wallowing in misery and no more listening to all those who are putting you or the situation down. No more believing you need something to make you whole...
COME FORTH and walk in the newness that God has called you for!
I pray these words will touch someone's life in Jesus' name, Amen.
Merciful God,
we have sinned
in what we have thought and said,
in the wrong we have done
and in the good we have not done.
We have sinned in ignorance:
we have sinned in weakness:
we have sinned through our own deliberate fault.
We are truly sorry.
We repent and turn to you.
Forgive us, for our Saviour Christ's sake,
and renew our lives to the glory of your name.
Bless us Lord that we may be accounted worthly to escape all things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of man. With your Stripes we are Healed in Jesus name. Amen
